At 12.5"H x 6.5" W x 9.5" D, the Gibbon 3s were not exactly huge; they just sounded that way. They were manufactured and assembled in DeVore's Brooklyn-based factory and available in several beautiful hardwood veneers. My personal pair were finished in a light cherry and had a wonderful grain throughout.

Built to offer more Reuleaux triangle in the Venn diagram of audiophile loudspeakers, the Gibbon series strives for pinpoint imaging, sound stage depth and scale, whereas the Orangutans focus on dynamic impact and room energization. The X come superbly - if enormously - packed and double-boxed.

But DeVore Fidelity is different. In more ways than this, that's for sure. But speaking purely of materials, designer John DeVore leans toward using natural materials and does employ wood laminates (like birch plywood and the Gibbon 3XL's bamboo) in his Gibbon and Orangutan designs.

An obvious contender at the Gibbon's price of $4295/pair (including stands) is my reference Harbeth Compact 7 ES-3 at $3495/pair (plus stands). I find that the Harbeth provides a somewhat richer, fuller sound—its cabinet is larger—but maybe a little less immediately apparent low-level detail.

Devore Fidelity Gibbon 3XLs Loudspeakers Positive Feedback

The DeVore Fidelity Gibbon 3 loudspeakers could be passed over by audio playboys looking for new equipment instead of equipment to live with. The price is not shocking enough and the appearance is attractive without resorting to piano-gloss glitz. The Gibbon 3 loudspeakers are a two-way ported box loudspeaker with a 1" silk dome tweeter and a 4.

Portugal and while this may not be a particularly useful reference, I thought that I would briefly share my impressions. Some context: I have been using Harbeth 30.1 for a couple of years, and am largely quite happy with them. I listen to a lot of jazz, and acoustic music, with which the Harbeth's are generally known to shine.

The 3XLs' sound is refined and sweet treble to midrange to bass, extremely detailed and quick and with an exceptional low end for such a small cabinet. It actually delivers high-quality defined low end regardless of its size.

A former retail hi-fi salesman in Manhattan, John DeVore established DeVore Fidelity as a serious company at the end of 2000. As far as the monkey business goes, John told me that there are anthropologists and primatologists in his family. Does that mean zookeepers? Thank Darwin I didn't monkey more, DeVore.

This Gibbon 3XL is the smallest model in the range and the only standmount. It also costs £3,000, give or take a fiver, which seems rather expensive for a compact two way stand-mount, though.

An absolutely full-range and utterly transparent reference speaker for the gibbon series. Easy to drive and easy to place in any room. The gibbon X is a three-way system with a new 3/4 inch ultra-low-mass textile dome tweeter suspended in an inert chamber, a new 7 inch midrange driver with a phase-plug and inverted natural rubber surround in it's own sealed enclosure and a pair of massive.

Devore Fidelity Coup de Foudre

Feb 12, 2019. #5. ryanmh1 said: Funny. My takeaway from that was that KEF has a winner on its hands, and DeVore has a speaker that needs to be heavily rejiggered. That suckout from 80Hz all the way up to 500Hz is anything but pretty. And then from 3kHz to 4.5kHz.. Ouch.

I am seriously considering the little Harbeth. I think there is a good chance that it would work in my small room and if not, it seems to be popular enough that I could probably resell quite easily. Hi Arh, Thank you for the link in regards to the DeVore's. It was this review that had gotten me interested in the DeVore 3XL's.

Devore vs Harbeth Can anyone compare these speakers. Harbeth HL5's or c7 to a Devore super 8 or 9. I know what the Harbeth sounds like, but have never heard Devore and there aren't any dealers close. From reading reviews they sound like they have the same qualities. Thanks Mike brm1 10-30-2010 5:18am 13 responses Add your response
